ecom instruments is a manufacturer of equipment for use in various sectors, including oil and gas, chemicals, petrochemicals, mining, pharmaceuticals, energy and the environment. 1986Foundation of Ecom Rolf Nied GmbH in Assamstadt to develop control systems for electronics and explosion protection.

1990Construction of the new company building
Establishment of the Calibration product division in the Ex and non-Ex area
ecom introduces its first in-house developed explosion-shielded calibrator (EX-mAG 20) to the market.

1991Establishment of the Measuring product division in the Ex and non-Ex area

1993Introduction of the Maintenance product division

1995Acquisition of the DIN-ISO 9001 quality certificate

1997Approval of quality assurance and production according to ATEX (Atmosphère explosible) is applied for the two EC directives in the field of explosion protection, namely ATEX product directive 94/9/EC and ATEX operating directive 1999/92/EC.
Development of the European market by establishing sales offices in neighbouring countries.

1999Expansion of the product line to include Communication, Torches & Handlamps and Data Technology

2001Reorganisation of Ecom Rolf Nied GmbH into two new companies:
ecom instruments: incorporates production, worldwide sales and customer support
ecom engineering: development of customised solutions, technical consultation and modification of standard products.

First FM approval for the North American market.
Foundation of the subsidiary ecom USA.

2002

Expansion of the product line to include the Mobile Computing division

2006ecom instruments GmbH reflects on 20 years of success in the Ex-area.
First approval for Japan (TIIS)

2007Winner of the iF Design Award for the innovative design of the explosion-shielded torch Lite-Ex PL 30
Establishment of a service centre in Houston, Texas
First approval for Brazil (CEPEL)
ecom's quality assurance system is awarded IEC Certification

2008Establishment of an additional service centre in Singapore
First approval for China (NEPSI) and IEC approval for products manufactured by ecom.

2009First approval for Australia (TestSafe)
