Push-To-Talk (PTT)
What is Push-to-Talk?
PTT over IP is a service providing group communication like Two-Way Radio communication systems (TETRA, DMR and the classic analogue PMR).
Existing systems can be easily substituted, including DECT systems!
- Medium for that communication standard is an internet connection. Handset to server, server to other handset(s).
- Thus, no separate infrastructure than public 2G/3G/4G and/or WiFi necessary.
- Typical for PTT/Two-Way radio systems: “simplex mode”:
While one person is speaking to one/a group of other person/s, no one else can interrupt him until the speaker releases the PTT button. - Very short latency times nowadays: down to 100 ms in 4G network.
Compatible Devices
Operate with Mobile Devices & TETRA Radios in the same network
- Even though the mobile devices (e.g. Smart-Ex® 01 & Ex-Handy 09) are connected to each other over the internet (IP based), the TETRA devices can still exist in the same network.
- A TETRA server, that shares the TETRA network, is connected to the main PTT server.
- With specific software solutions, both networks are even able to communicate with each other.
Direct Call PTT
- Speaker addresses the PTT server via the internet.
- Server dispatches to the selected "group", which consists of one person only.
- The addressees of the call may be in any type of network: 2G, 3G, 4G or WiFi
Group Call PTT
- Speaker addresses the PTT server via the internet.
- Server dispatches to the selected group.
- The addressees of the call may be in any type of network: 2G, 3G, 4G or WiFi
- IP based
Direct Call Public Network
- Speaker connects to the addressee via a regular call.
- The PTT client is still active in the background.
- Addressees without 2G/3G/4G coverage can’t be reached.
- This connection uses duplex mode.
