IoT Wearables in Hazardous Areas – Smartwatch and Video Camera from ecom

Fueled by IoT, the fourth industrial revolution has taken off. Now, wearables are making their way into the industrial sector. These small, connected devices are worn on the body and support the wearer's everyday work.

Wearables are digital assistants designed to improve workplace productivity, safety, and efficiency in industrial environments and hazardous areas. By connecting workers directly to their work environments, the devices maximize operational efficiency and improve the way work is done in the field. They can track work activities, collect data in real time, and provide alerts to ensure both worker and plant safety.

The Pepperl+Fuchs brand ecom provides wearable solutions for workers in the field. ecom's Smart-Ex® Watch 01 for Zone 2 and Division 2 features an integrated GPS and motion sensors. These enable status monitoring of critical values and guarantee tracking in case of an emergency. Based on the Samsung Galaxy Smartwatch, the device offers hands-free navigation that simplifies operation and a rotatable bezel that allows quick and easy scrolling through apps and commands, even with gloves.

The CUBE 800 from ecom is the first portable, explosion-proof infrared and HD video camera for Zone 1/21 and Division 1. This peripheral device provides HD digital and thermal imaging technology for inspections and maintenance in potentially hazardous areas. The camera can be combined with ecom's intrinsically safe Smart-Ex® smartphone series or Tab-Ex® tablet series so workers can control it remotely, view HD video and thermal imaging, and capture and annotate pictures or recordings in real time from a safe distance. This makes it possible to quickly identify and repair critical areas of the plant.
