Tab-Ex® 01: Customer ‘road-test’

Challenge: How would your 'rugged' tablet deal with being run over by a car?

Our repair centre received a rather unusual service request this month. Apparently one of our Australian based energy clients had accidentally run over one of their Tab-Ex® 01 units with their car. While the tablet was still working normally, they quite rightly wanted to ensure that it was still safe to use in a Zone 1 hazardous area.

Our service and repair centre accordingly checked the device thoroughly and found there was no compromise to the safety or operational integrity of the device, and the explosion protection of the device could still be guaranteed. It just looks a little worse for wear, given the vehicle tyres and road surface, so as a point of customer service we replaced the scratched covers for our client, and it’ll be back in service soon.

At ecom we’re proud to have been building mobile devices suitable for use in hazardous areas for 30 years. The ruggedness of our devices is part of our reputation; to ensure our devices survive what the real world throws at them- although we don’t suggest you drive over your tablet just to prove it!
