Use case: Converting 4G into Wi-Fi for temporary data connectivity in hazardous areas

Notebooks and tablets may have not always a built-in cellular chip, but they often are able to transmit data using via Wi-Fi. In some cases where temporary connectivity is needed is may not be viable to install a fixed Wi-Fi access point in hazardous areas due to cost and also the effort needed to install the equipment.

Using a 4G/LTE mobile device, such as a modern smartphone, you can wirelessly tether Wi-Fi only hardware to create a temporary Wi-Fi hotspot. This enables connectivity allowing mobile workers to move to the location of work and connect in only a few minutes. All hardware including tablets or notebooks, connected to this temporary network will use the existing mobile data package or be able to take advantage of offshore LTE networks such as Tampnet.

ecom's latest intrinsically safe smartphone, the Smart-Ex® 01, can be used as a robust solution to set up a temporary access point for Wi-Fi enabled devices in the field. See the new tutorial "How to set up a Wi-Fi hotspot with your 4G/LTE Smart-Ex® 01" which shows how quickly you can create a hotspot.
