International Protection (IP)

The International Protection Marking (sometimes called Ingress Protection) classifies the degree of protection against solid objects (like body parts, tools and dust grains) and the harmful ingress of water by mechanical casings and electrical enclosures. The IP Code gives users detailed information on the protection of, in our case, mobile devices. The IP Code rating is published by the "International Electrotechnical Commission" (IEC).

The first digit indicates the level of protection of devices' hazardous parts against the ingress of solid foreign objects. The second digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against harmful ingress of water. If it is not possible to specify a protection rating the digit is replaced with the letter X. Additional letters that can be added after the digits can give more information on further protection.
