ISO 9001
The ISO 9001 quality management standard is the most widely used and most important standard for quality management (QM) on both a national and international scale. Certification to ISO 9001 is possible for companies of all sizes and in all sectors. It forms the basis for the continuous improvement process of a company's internal quality management system (QMS).
ISO 9001 lays down the minimum requirements for a quality management system that a company needs to implement in order to fulfill customer requirements, as well as other requirements relating to product and/or service quality. By introducing a QM system, for example:
- the transparency of operational procedures can be increased,
- higher customer satisfaction can be achieved,
- the error rate, and thus costs, can be reduced.
A fundamental principle of ISO 9001 is process orientation. A process-oriented QM system accompanies all of the important operational processes and places them under scrutiny. This can reveal opportunities for optimization, even in well-run organizations.
