With explosion-proof mobile solutions and live communication software, JET Aviation, a specialist in maintenance and aircraft interior design, increases the productivity and efficiency of its employees, reduces acquisition costs and improves the flow of information and security.

JET Aviation designs, tests and certifies aircraft interiors for narrow and wide-bodied aircrafts. In order to maintain its leading position in the market, the global business aviation company is constantly reviewing its processes. This also applies to communication technologies: "Up to now, we have been using PMR radios and supplementary mobile phones as telephony solution," says Angelo Cassano, Manager Fueling at JET Aviation AG. "Our goal was to implement a single mobile solution portfolio for hazardous and non-Ex-areas - with all the key applications and no additional equipment for our employees."

The solution had to be optimally tailored to the individual circumstances such as loud background noise and hazardous areas, and at the same time be as economical as possible. "We have carefully evaluated the costs with a ROI calculation and compared the hardware and software of various vendors", continues Cassano.

When selecting a mobile solution, JET Aviation relied on AST SWISS AG, its long-standing partner and expert for technical equipment. The system integrator provides the complete solution with hardware from ecom, software, services, consulting, integration and training.

As the technological basis for networked applications, AST SWISS relies on ecom's ultrarugged, explosion-proof 4G/LTE smartphone Smart Ex® 01 for use up to Zone 1/21 and Division 1. The mobile solution is part of an interlinked, intrinsically safe solution portfolio that also includes tablets, BLE beacons, peripherals and software.

In combination with the TrackMobile Push-to-Talk (PTT) application by AST SWISS, the ecom smartphone forms an integrated system for the digitization strategy. Employees no longer have to carry two devices - a mobile phone and a handheld radio.

With the all-in-one solution, JET Aviation not only saves on hardware costs, but also increases employee efficiency and productivity.

The Smart-Ex® 01 is suitable for the diverse tasks of a mobile user, such as inventories, material tracking, inspection and maintenance. The PTT-enabled device can be used for virtually any type of work in industrial environments at a lower cost than TETRA Excertified handheld radios.

The Smart-Ex® 01 allows you to use pushto- talk over LTE and Wi-Fi networks, meaning expansive coverage in every area and situation, much lower network latency, excellent data transmission rates and the best speech quality.

Via the PTT application, JET Aviation is also expanding its „walkie-talkie communication“ with data and video. By receiving and sending information about assets in real time, the company modernizes and accelerates the collaboration between mobile employees, experts at the control center and back-end systems.

This helps to detect damage during inspections or maintenance work. Experts can - without losing valuable time - provide remote diagnostics in real-time and initiate necessary actions or repairs immediately. Thus, expensive breakdowns and repair times can be drastically reduced.

The smartphones are also customizable so that employees only have access to the applications they need for their work tasks and for which they are authorized. In addition, endto- end encryption enables secure data transfer and system access.

This ensures the integrity of enterprise data and improves the user experience.

JET Aviation was also able to counteract the loud background noise in the aviation sector with the intrinsically safe ComCom Ex headset from ecom. Thanks to the noise-canceling microphone, the conversational partner hears every word and the employee himself can understand the conversation perfectly through the in-ear speaker. Another advantage is that wearing the headset does not restrict freedom of movement and the employee can work with both hands.

"The Smart-Ex® 01, in conjunction with the professional PTT application TrackMobile, offers us a wide range of business applications to increase operational efficiency and productivity without sacrificing security," says Angelo Cassano.

Together with its partner AST SWISS AG, JET Aviation therefore plans to implement further applications such as Lone Worker Protection and BLE beacons as localization solutions, and to transfer the mobile portfolio to other business units.
