A dust explosion is an explosion caused by the ignition of dust. Prerequisites are the presence of a potentially explosive atmosphere and an ignition source. A potentially explosive atmosphere is a mixture of oxygen and combustible dust (dust = the finest solid particles), for example, flour, wood, cocoa, coffee, starch, magnesium, aluminum and iron.
