A peripheral device is an internal or external device, usually hardware, that can be connected to a computer or a mobile device for the purpose of processing data.

It is used to input and output data. Peripheral devices can either be connected via a cable or plug connection, while a wireless WiFi or Bluetooth® connection may also be supported depending on the device used.

Peripheral devices include, for example, a mouse, keyboard, headphones, handheld scanner, monitor, speakers, printer and headset.
