Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is a radio technology used for contactless identification and localization of objects. An RFID system consists of a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter can be a scanner with an RFID reader, which reads RFID tags (also known as transponders).

Industrial RFID applications include access verification and object tracking.
