Explosion-proof mobile phones - 30 years of communication in hazardous areas

Part 2

After the first calibrators, auxiliaries and test equipment (see "30 years of safety and efficiency in hazardous areas") were launched in 1994, the world's first intrinsically safe GSM mobile phone for ATEX Zone 1 hit the market. This world premiere represented the beginning of today's series of mobile phones for use in hazardous areas.

The safety of workers remains, as it has always, the foremost concern during ecom's development of refined explosion protection as well as lone worker protection systems. Modern and reliable applications installed on the mobile phones include emergency keys which can be manually triggered or can be triggered by the motion sensor which sends an emergency signal to the control centre, initiating any emergency actions that need to take place.

Today, the 9th generation of explosion-protected mobile phones are equipped with long battery life and other unbeatable features. With the introduction and launch of Ex-Handy 09 and Smart-Ex® 01 a new era of mobile working was introduced: While previously the focus lay on the communication between employees and headquarters, new applications running on Android operating system are performing an increasingly important role. New technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC allow wireless communication with other devices as well as with accessories, achieving higher levels of productivity and efficiency.
