New ways in data capturing and processing

Part 3

Over the last three decades ecom has decisively influenced the way workers carry out tasks that facilitate and optimize working in hazardous areas enormously. By harnessing mobile devices ecom brings a new level of efficiency into areas where pen and paper was commonly being used to collect data.

ecom has been developing mobile computers since 1999 but by far the biggest step forward came with the first PDA (personal digital assistant) for Zone 1 / Division 1: The i.roc® 610-Ex and its direct successor, the 620-Ex. Both were equipped with Windows Mobile™ operating system and were an integral and successful part of the product range of ecom for years before in 2013 the first in-house developed mobile computer, the Ci70 -Ex i.roc®, came on the market.

In partnership with Intermec, a world's first was developed from scratch. The result is a modern device that, with its innovative replaceable head module concept for data acquisition, signalled a significant increase in the capabilities of a hazardous area mobile device. The Ci70-Ex has been certified for many international inspections and thus it can be used worldwide. It is also the world's only PDA that has a mining approval and is equipped with WWAN. A wide range of optional accessories and peripherals complete the i.roc® as "All-in-One" solution.

With the help of explosion-proof mobile computers or PDAs, a new level of efficiency and safety can be achieved in hazardous areas. Faster, safer and easier data processing and capturing delivers higher data quality and accuracy from the field. Through wireless connections, data can be made available immediately and decisions can be made more quickly increasing the overall user experience of carrying out work in hazardous areas.
